Definition: Analogue signals


Signals which come directly from the read/write heads, before digitalization. No analogue signals indicate that data has not been stored on the media, or the data has been removed using a strong magnetic field such as a Degausser.

Typically used about the internal information of the file system itself. The file system keeps track of the names of the files, their size and where the file is stored. This information is stored to the media in addition to the file content.
